I was raised on an Oregon farm, where the closest town of 400 people was ten miles away. In those wheat fields, I learned about life working alongside my father, mother and sister and together we built a life that was full of hard work, the heartache of unpredictable weather on our crops, and the joys of growing up in a remote and tight-knit community. On that farm, I learned the value of connection to each other and to the land.
Almost all of my work has a strong story-telling quality to it. My introduction to art was in high school where my teacher, Shirley Fritts took me under her wing and taught me the craft of stained glass. This foundation has left an indelible mark on my work, which is comprised of shapes that are linked by a common color that connects the elements, much like the lead that holds cut glass together. It is an unmistakable influence on my art.
